about

On a snowy morning in 2016, a good friend and I were driving from Gardiner, Montana, a small town near the North entrance to Yellowstone, up to the city of Bozeman, when the car we were driving hit some black ice on a lonely mountain pass just south of Livingston. The car spun off the highway, barreled down a hill, blasting through a fence and into the water.

This is a song about that experience.

lyrics

We were up with the sun
We were rolling through the timber
Just south of Livingston
I will always remember

The look you shot my way
As we spun into the river
I was in it to my waist
Tryin to save the vinyl records

When we blew right through the gate
I thought, “well, at least I was sober”
Got a ticket anyway
Ain’t that some shit, then it was over

Thought my car would float away
Took two hours just to tow it
We sat there for a moment
Then we made our way to Bozeman

The Absaroka range
Was blanketed in powder
Reality got louder
As we drove away without her
